Karapınar Volcanic area is the region between Konya and Aksaray provinces in Central Anatolia, between Konya Karapınar district and Zengen districts. There are dozens of monogenetic volcanoes in the region. Maars, cinder cones are dominant volcano types. The volcanic area consists of two main regions. The region, which includes volcanoes such as Karacadağ, Meke Lake and Acıgöl near Karapınar district in the west, is the region between Eğrikuyu-Zengen-Üçkuyu in the east and contains dozens of cinder cones and maars.
It is one of the regions where Central Anatolian's basic volcanism and monogenetic volcanoes can be seen most beautifully. Lake Meke, which is the symbol of Karapınar volcanic area, resembles the evil eye bead with the cinder cone coming out of a maar.
Karapınar volcanic area showed its effects at different times during the Quaternary period and formed its products with basic volcanism. These products mostly surfaced using weak zones. There are gas outflows of volcanic origin in the Karapınar region, especially in the Nasuhpınarı region and in the Acıgöl maar.
