Exploration Of Gemstone Potential Of Turkey
Aim and Scope
The aim of this Project which has been carried since 2012 by Mineralogy-Petrography Unit of MTA Natural History Museum, is to investigate both gemstone genesis and their quantity and to collect gemstone samples for the exhibition section in our museum. For this purpose, previous literature studies about important gemstone occurences in Turkey have been collected partly. Field surveys have been conducted about gemstone occurences at Kütahya, Bursa, Eskişehir, Malatya, Erzurum, Kahramanmaraş, Manisa and İzmir, mineralogy-petrography and geochemistry of some occurrences have been studied. Results have been presented at some scientific congresses and symposiums by using these mineralogical, petrographical and geochemical datas. Similar studies have been scheduled for all around Turkey to make an inventory as a final aim of this project.
